Looking for simple and creative ways to entertain your 2 year old? This article will provide you with activities that will tickle the delights of your 2 year old.

Two year old toddlers are in a unique phase in their role-relationship maturity. It’s a stage of increased independence. They venture away from parents for longer periods of time but they return for reassurance breathers. It’s a stage where they most do parallel play with a little bits of associative play. It’s an interesting state. This guide will help you with activities that can compliment with their particular growth level.

Choose an easy home chore.

Teach them small amounts of independence but supervise them. Try washing your clothes with them. Ask them to sort colored clothes into one pile and white into another pile. Delegate small stuff they can readily do. This also builds their confidence.

Unleash the artist, do finger paintings!

Purchase a non-toxic paint and some paper. It would really help if you buy a paint gown or apron or maybe a used old shirt. Help them wear it to protect their inner clothing. Next put some old newspaper on your flooring or table. Spills do happen so anticipate early. Finally, have fun and paint with them. Use different colors.

Do role playing activities.

Age 2 is a socializing phase. Children this age imitate their parents. They do socializing play. Why not play doctor with your 2 year old? Purchase a toy medical kit. Ask them to take your temperature. Ask open ended questions as you participate in the role playing activity. This way you can also interactively teach your kid too.

Use “Play-Doh” as a creativity enhancement exercise.

Allow your 2 year old to experience how clay feels like. Allow them to mash the clay and play with it. Try making shapes with them. This exercise develops their gross and fine motor muscles. It also promotes muscle strengthening and development. Of course make sure that they don’t eat it afterwards.

Read a Disney book.

Grab an animated book with several pictures and read to your 2 year old. As you read expressively, try to explain the pictures printed on the book. Express the feelings of the character in the story in simple terms and have them imitate these feelings of expression.

Watch a movie together.

Cartoon is still one of the best mediums to relate to children. The colorful scenery, the animal characters, the energetic songs and the animation itself catches them in surprise. Some kids could watch the movie over and over again in a single day. It could be boring to an adult but it is a thrill to small ones.

Invest on a “trike” ride-on toy.

A trike is a great outdoor activity. It’s an exercise machine as well. They come in several colors and designs. Some even have a special cartoon theme like the “Incredibles” or a Disney princess design.

Water fun in a tub.

Grab a rubber ducky or a toy tug boat. Add some bubbles to your tub or mini indoor pool and your 2 year old will have a blast of a time!

My 2 year old daughter wets herself at night. I started noticing that after i had a 2nd baby, she’s 2 months now, could it be she’s seeking attention for doing this, coz she never used to wet the bed at night before.

These are great ideas but most of them my son stopped wanting to do this after a year in half. he is now almost 2 he has almost 2 months before his birthday. He is potty training himself and doesnt want my help. The things he always wants to do instead of playing with toys is he actually builds things out of wood my dad had cut for him, he will use his fake nuts and bolts and build things.
He made a box and told me “mama its a house for cars” … He knows how to start my car and knows that you have to push the clutch in in order to go. I really have ran out of things to have him play with. I had tryied the games and activitys that teach colors and numbers but he knows them know.. he can count up to 5 and then count backwards. And he knows almost all of the colors. He gets bored with toys easily. right now his favorite toy is crayons and using them to draw the letter ‘A’ NO JOKE!! please help i need some suggestions. I am now going to college and when i am doing my home work he will sit down next to me, try and read the book and make me take notes on what he is telling me.
