Obamacare Being Protested But Not By The Uninsured

President Obama has found his approval ratings plummet in recent weeks in large part due to the fact that he is trying to reform healthcare. When he, or his fellow Democrats speak on the issue in towns across the Country, they are uniformly cheered and booed. Protesters show up in every corner of the health care reform playing field, and they are largely Republican. One thing the protesters are not, however, is uninsured.

Without the deep nuts and bolts of the health care reform being detailed, the basic idea is that the government will regulate insurance, and extend health care coverage to every American. Surely, this will be a large step in the direction of government-run healthcare, but the uninsured of America probably do not much care about that. Especially if they are sick and unable to find healthcare.

It is difficult for the uninsured to understand the Republican’s position. Republicans, and the insured of America have on blinders. They have the mind that every American has equal opportunity and access to healthcare. They have a very hard time understanding the fears and dangers of living without health insurance and being unable to solve it for any number of reasons. Even the largest number of Republicans that are also uninsured agree with that. Finding out you are deathly sick with no way to get better will certainly make you forget political lines.

If you have never been to a doctor and been turned away because you did not have insurance, then put your sign down. If you have never been to a dentist and been told you would have to pay huge amounts of money that you don’t have without insurance, then put your sign down. If you have never had to pass on medicine because of a lack of ability to afford it, even when it meant your life being shortened, then put your sign down.

I am not a fan of President Obama on the whole. I am a fan of his healthcare plan, because quite simply put, it is about something bigger than myself. Whether I have insurance or not, I feel that every living person should be taken care of if they technology exists. The insurance companies have been screwing Americans for long enough. They have taken our money, and forced people out that deserved to be taken care of. People die in this country every hour that could have been helped with proper healthcare. At least President Obama is trying to do something about it. What President before him has?

Do I think his healthcare proposals are perfect? No. Do I think that his healthcare will solve all the ills of the healthcare community? Of course not. I do think, however, that if you have a choice between insurance companies continuing to get rich and people being denied healthcare, and the government getting rich but everyone having healthcare, then the answer is simple. I would rather the government have the money, and people get the care they deserve. That seems like a simple decision to me.
