Here’s a simple uncomplicated way to help you make your own hair bow. This article will give you a few steps to get you started.
Step 1: Find a book about hair bows.
Search the web for references. I’m sure there are several books in the market that have this information available. As you scout for a good book, jot down the costs of the books. This way you can put away money to purchase it. Try visiting your nearby bookstore like Barnes & Nobles. Their staff should be more than willing to assist you and show you related topics. Purchase a book with several pictures and step by step illustrations.
Step 2: Determine the hair bow style you want to create.
After you have purchased the book, browse the content and determine the hair bow style you are interested to create. Read the instructions and access your skill. Can you pull it off? Can you complete the design? I suggest you start with something simple. Build on your skill until you are confident enough to take on more complex designs.
Step 3: Gather and prepare your materials.
After you have chosen the hair bow style you’d like to do, gather the materials you will need to construct your project. In constructing a hair bow, you usually would need a pair of good scissors, a measuring tape or ruler, material for your ribbon, a metal clip where you can attach the ribbon itself, fray check, some craft wire and of course a glue gun. Place your materials on table or any space where you can work properly. Make sure you have ample lighting and ventilation.
Step 4: Assembling the ribbon.
Using your tape measure or ruler cut out a big piece of ribbon sheet, 10 inches in length by 6 inches in width. Use a pencil and a pair of scissors to cut it neatly. Once you have done this, mark down the middle portion of the ribbon sheet. This will serve as a marker for the center of the ribbon. Next fold the 6 inch side of the ribbon sheet in about 1 and a half inch in measurement. Do this alternately front to back then front to back again until you have folded the whole thing. Try to make connected triangular shapes with the sheet. Using a pair of scissors again, cut the irregular or extra folds that are not evenly sized with the other folds. Your ribbon sheet should be neatly folded. Then pinch the folded ribbon in the center. By now your ribbon should be looking a lot like a bow tie. Then grab a small piece of crafty wire and looped it around the pinched center of the ribbon. Carefully readjust the folds as you do this. Afterwards, cut a smaller piece of ribbon and glue it around the craft wire to conceal it. Now check the bow on both sides to make sure it’s even. Then finish the edges to prevent fraying. Later when the bow is ready, attach it to the clip. Now take a small piece of ribbon again and knot it around the clip and bow. Make sure you knot it at the center.
