ThinkPad X300 - Laptop Review

If you are techie junkie and you are scouring the online stores for the next best thing when it comes to ultra-portables, then look no further. The ThinkPad X300 is (as we speak) the thinnest, most lightweight laptop in the market today. It is true that although this laptop is not about to compete with major super computers when it comes to data handling and technical features, this is about the best and most serviceable notebook when you really have to have a computer on your travels. The design alone and the very sleekness of the ThinkPad X300 is enough to garner you envious looks when you prop it up on the airplane’s counter; but of course, the manufacturers of this laptop had other things in mind.

lenovo-thinkpad-x300One of the thinnest notebook PCs in the market, the Lenovo ThinkPad X300 series is certainly a dream. Affectionately nicknamed Kodachi¸ this ultra portable laptop was initially released early February 26 of this year to a very receptive general public. Some of the specifications of the ThinkPad X300 include a: 1.20 GHZ Intel Core Duo processor; 13.3 inch WXGA screen with a LED backlit display; 6 cell Li-Ion battery; fingerprint reader; full sized keyboards; touchpad; track point navigation; ultra thin DVD burner; and a host of wireless connections like Bluetooth, GPS, Intel 4965 AGN, Intel UWB and Verizon.

In addition to that, there are more than enough ports on the ThinkPad X300 to wire you to the moon. Exaggeration aside, Kodachi easily boasts of 8 ports for functions like: AC adapter; headphone / line-out port; microphone / line-in port; monitor out port; a Gigabit Ethernet port; 3 other wireless USB ports just in case you still feel lacking. There is also a port replicator which can be used through one of the available USB ports.

The ThinkPad X300 has a rather impressive memory that is stocked at 2 GB but can be configured to a maximum of 4 GB. It also has enough memory storage capacity at 64 GB. This makes it perfect for downloading massive files, while performing multi-task functions. Web-conferencing at high altitudes also poses no problems. And if you would rather have this contraption for less business-like purposes, the high screen resolution and convenient keyboard spread is great for gaming purposes as well.

If you really want to nitpick about this product, we can point you in two directions. One: the touchpad’s location is rather obtrusive; it is so sensitive that any accidental brushing leads to a couple of bothersome errors. Also, the price for the ThinkPad X300 is definitely way out there. A stock model can easily fetch a $2,500, but prices for add-ons and the like can peg the notebook at more than $3,300 – minus shipping, handling and other delivery services, of course.

But in our very biased opinion: the Lenovo’s ThinkPad X300 more than delivers. The company has always been great when it comes to tech support and biting down on their guarantees. One other element we like about this ultra portable is that it is Greenpeace approved; meaning that this laptop has been regarded as environmentally friendly. If nothing else, buying this notebook will definitely win you more points with the nature friendly crowd.
