If you are a convicted felon, finding a job is probably not going to be the easiest thing for you to do. While some potential employers may be somewhat understanding about your situation, there are others who will not want to give you a new start on life. Here are five jobs for felons to think about if they are looking for a fresh start.
UPS Deliverer
UPS is a very reputable company. Its employees are known to earn very good wages, may receive good benefits, and are often able to secure long-term employment. Best of all, UPS has been known to hire felons. If you are looking for a company that is likely to have an open position, be sure to consider UPS. Best of all, you will be looked at as someone with a very respectable job.
Trucker
There are a number of different trucking companies which have been known to hire felons. The only thing that you will need to do is obtain a CDL license. Many truckers earn high wages and receive very good benefits. If you enjoy traveling, this is definitely an option that you may want to consider in your job search.
Army
If you are young enough, then you may want to think about joining the army. While most of the rumors are that the army does not take felons, this is not true at all. The army has been known to allow many felons to join. If you are young enough, you can make a career out of the army or you may be able to gain respect from those who would have never given it to you before.
Business Owner
The only problem that many former felons have with opening a business is getting the funds to start one. If you have the money to start your own business, this is a great option for you. You are going to be working for no one but yourself. Consider the type of small business that you are planning to start, however. Depending on what you are trying to sell, people may or may not be interested in your background.
Construction
It is not at all uncommon for construction workers to hire felons. Depending on the area that you live in, this job may or may not be a feasible option. If the weather is frequently warm, it can be a great choice. Otherwise, it is going to only be a seasonal job. Most construction workers do earn decent pay, however.
These are just five jobs for felons looking for a fresh start. If you have not considered any of these new jobs for yourself, then it is a good idea to do so. You may be surprised at the new employment opportunities that you will find.
