Fees You Should Avoid When Using Bank Accounts

Every year, banks see a profit of billions of dollars from charges that come from the bank accounts of consumers just like. Since these banks are profiting from service charges that can often be avoided to this magnitude, perhaps it’s time to consider how much of your money is being contributed to these profits. After you have determined this information you can begin to avoid these fees from depleting your bank account balance.

bankingABM Charges

These charges can occur when the client withdraws money from a bank machine that is not owned by their home bank. These fees range from $1.00 to $3.00 and are often charged twice. Once as a convenience fee for the person who owns the bank machine and once as a fee from the bank that the client deals with. For using another company’s bank machine, the client can be charged upwards of $5.00 per transaction! If the consumer uses these services on a regular basis it can lead to money being drained from the bank account at the end of the month when these fees are charged.

Overdraft Fees and Interest Charges

Overdraft services allow the consumer to use the bank’s money as credit. Overdraft can often be granted from $1,000.00 to $5,000.00 and comes with interest charges upwards of 30%. Aside from the fees which are associated with the interest charges, there is often a straight fee which is charged once the consumer enters the overdraft amount. This fee can be upwards of $35.00 and is tacked on to the amount which must be repaid by deposits which are made to the account.

NSF Charges

NSF charges occur and can cost the consumer $40.00 per check or payment that has been made from the account if the money was unavailable. Think about it this way, if you do not have the funds within the account to make five payments this month and these payments are debited, the consumer can end up owing $200.00 for these payments – which still must be made to the creditor. These charges are some of the most expensive when it comes to using the bank account and can cost you the money in your account and valuable points from the credit rating.

Online Transfer Fees

Most charges that occur from these types of accounts come as a shock to the account holder. These charges can cost upwards of $5.00 per transaction, this is $5.00 each time that the debit card is used through this account or each time that the account is used to make a payment. Most online bank accounts give the consumer a high interest rate but only allow for money to be transferred from the account at low cost.
