It is very common for belly button rings to become infected. The nature of the belly button ring procedure is much like that of an ear or nose piercing in that it is easily infected. Luckily, there are a number of different things that you can do to prevent this problem. Here are some tips on how to keep belly rings from becoming infected.
Have it Pierced by Someone Reputable It is important that you should not have your belly button ring pierced by just anyone. Be sure to do some research about different piercing places in the area and choose one that is really well known. Selecting someone reputable is the best way to prevent a belly ring infection.
Clean the Belly Ring Every Single Day The most important thing that you will want to do is clean the belly ring every single day. When you take a shower, be sure to wash it with warm water and antibacterial soap. In between cleanings, consider using a lotion such as Curel or Vaseline Intensive Care. This will prevent the belly ring from forming scabs, which will reduce the chance of infection.
Wash the Piercing After Sweating If you exercise or do anything else that causes you to sweat a lot, you will want to wash the piercing. The oils from the sweat can seep into the belly piercing and may cause it to become infected. Washing the piercing with anti-bacterial soap and warm water after sweating will prevent this from being a problem.
Use Saltwater to Speed Up Healing Dissolve salt or sea-salt in warm water. Use a q-tip to apply the solution to the belly button. You will want to do this once to twice daily. It will help speed up the healing process. Since belly button piercings generally take about three months but can take up to twelve months to heal, this can really make all of the difference.
Avoid Playing With the Belly Ring Keep in mind that playing with the bellybutton ring will cause the oils from your skin to get onto the piercing. It is possible to spread bacteria this way. Also keep in mind that twisting the belly button ring can cause the skin to tear and, ultimately, may cause an infection. Your best bet is to simply leave the belly ring alone.
These are just some of the things that you can do to prevent a belly button ring from becoming infected. Keep in mind that once you do become infected, the problem can be pretty severe. Contact the person who pierced it to find out what you should do about the infection. If it does not heal in a reasonable amount of time, you will want to remove the piercing and consider seeing a doctor, who may be able to provide you with antibiotics to take care of the infection.

Thanks for the tips! I am sure these tips will surely be of great help to bell ring wearers.
