Guitar Tab Software - Reading Guitar Tablature Online

In one time of our lives we dreamed we would be one of those rock stars who have millions of followers across the world. They will play their guitar in front of thousands of screaming fans and being featured not only in popular rock magazines but also revered as some of the guitar legends. Some of us may have experience with a guitar, but we just can’t seem to get thing underway because some songs that we love are just too difficult to read. Tablatures (guitar guide for playing a specific song) don’t seem to give you the right sound. Then one day, you just give it all up.

So let me introduce to you some of the software programs that can help you in your quest to become a better music player. More specifically, they can help you read the tabs more easily and improve the way you play. Better yet, they are free to use!

Let’s take a look first why you need such software. One of the reasons is legality. There used to be websites that offer a free tablature for a music song in plain text version, but unfortunately they were taken down. Music makers and producers apparently don’t like the idea of posting the tabs online. They say it’s a kind of piracy and some of the tabs are actually stolen from the actual players. Honestly, I really don’t understand the claim since the tabs don’t even look professional and all of them were uploaded and created by users. So one of the remedies that came along was software that can be used by tab creators.

One such software is TablEdit Viewer. This software will produce a tab file with an extension of .tef. When you download the software, you can view some of the tab files posted in the internet. Those files can then be viewed and listened to as MIDI files. Note that TablEdit Viewer is free, but the TablEdit Editor is not. That means you can just view the files for free, but can’t edit them. You can try TablEdit Editor for a limited trial period, but you have to purchase when the trial period ends.

The next software which is called Powertab is even more popular. Not only is the program free to view and edit the tabs, but also there are websites which are put up dedicated to the collection of these files contributed by millions of this program’s users. The files generated by this software have .ptb file extension. The software has the same specifications as TablEdit, and .ptb files can also be played as MIDI files.

These software programs are easy to download, and the file sizes are a little more than actual documents. So go ahead and download the program and start learning to play the music the right way!
