Frank Miller-Comic Book Icon

This comic book artist and American writer began illustrating comics back in 1978. Since then, Frank Miller has went on to both illustrate as well as write many comic books for comic book companies including Epic, DC, Marvel, and Dark Horse. He has both illustrated as well as written some of the major titles in the world of comic books. These titles include Daredevil, Spiderman, Todd McFarlane’s “Spawn”, Batman, and of course his own works Sin City and 300. Both of Frank Miller’s solo projects have been successfully made into critically acclaimed movies.

Frank Miller began working on his legendary film noir inspired graphic novel “Sin City” in 1991. Sin City was originally serialized in Dark Horse Presents issues #51-62. Sin City was Frank Miller’s first solo project. Beautifully illustrated in glorious black and white, Sin City has helped to influence many fans of both film noir as well as crime story comics. In fact, the newly released, and highly controversial Nintendo Wii game MadWorld‘s style was adapted from Frank Miller’s Sin City.

In addition to Frank Miller having illustrated many a comic book, he has also been involved in film. Frank Miller wrote the scripts for Robocop 2 and 3, and co-wrote “Batman: Year One”. (Which was dumped for Batman Begins) Frank Miller also helped bring his creation Sin City, as well as Will Eisner’s cult classic “The Spirit” to the big screen. (While Frank Miller did not create the Spirit, he brought new life to it) Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez have also confirmed that Sin City 2 is in the works.

Frank Miller’s contributions to the world of illustrated entertainment and the world of comic books in general have not gone unappreciated. Frank Miller has received over 20 awards for his work in addition to his also having been nominated at the Cannes Film Festival.

With over 30 years of experience under his belt, Frank Miller continues to mystify audiences with his imagery. Miller’s undeniably gritty, while at the same time remarkably beautiful, illustrative work is iconic in the world of comic book and graphic novel artwork. His influence on these communities is unmistakable. Frank Miller is a living legend in these fields.

He has brought new life to the comic crime story, as well as a new found appreciation for film noir. It is for these reasons that Frank Miller should be considered (and is) a comic book icon. His work has stood the test of time, with his fan base growing steady. With the film adaptation alone, Frank Miller is one of the most respected players in the field that is comic book art.
